A Day With The Berbers
The Atlas Mountains and Imlil day trip is one of the most spectacular day trips from Marrakech, perfect if you want to escape the city and discover the authentic, rural side of Morocco. Your Imlil day trip begins at 9.00am in Marrakech, travelling by 4x4 or minibus for around 1 hour 30 minutes south towards the Moulay Brahim Gorges and the Berber village of Asni, famous for its weekly Saturday market. From here, continue to Imlil, crossing a vibrant green valley that remains fresh and lush even during the hottest summer months.
Imlil is a small mountain village at the foothills of Mount Toubkal, the highest mountain in Morocco. Thanks to its unique location and connections to several traditional Berber villages, Imlil is a popular starting point for mountain treks, hikes and Toubkal climbs, as well as a centre for hiring local mountain guides and mules. On arrival in Imlil, leave the vehicle behind and begin a walk of around one hour towards the Berber village of Aroumd (Aremd), at 1,843m. The trail passes through the hamlets of Ait Souka, Targa and Imoula, with the rugged Western High Atlas peaks of the Toubkal Massif rising dramatically ahead, including Jbel Aguelzim (3,547m), Aksouâl (3,847m) and Adrar Adj (3,122m).
Stop in Aroumd to explore this remarkable village in the Assif Aït Mizane Valley, built seemingly house upon house on a large moraine spur overlooking ancient irrigated terraces growing barley, corn and vegetables, surrounded by almond and walnut trees. Continue walking for another 30 minutes to the village of Achayn, where lunch will be served on a beautiful terrace with a local Berber family. Afterwards, enjoy a short walk before returning to Marrakech.

Pick Up & Drop Off
You will be picked up from your accommodation in Marrakech city, many riads don't have access via car so the driver will park nearby and come to get you.
You will be dropped off at the nearest point to your riad/hotel. Our driver can call your riad to meet you if needed.
Route Details
Day 01
Imlil & Toubkal Valley
At 9.00am, depart Marrakech by minibus or Land Rover and travel towards Tahanoute or Asni, with the opportunity to visit the local souk. The souk at Tahanoute takes place on Tuesdays, while Asni’s weekly market is held on Saturdays. At around 10.30am, continue from Tahanoute or Asni towards the mountain village of Imlil, arriving at approximately 11.15am.
On arrival in Imlil, explore the village before setting off on foot or by mule towards Aroumd and Achayn, taking in the spectacular High Atlas Mountain scenery along the way. At around 1.00pm, enjoy lunch at Dar Adrar before having some time to relax. Alternatively, if you have chosen the trekking option, take a mule ride or short trek to a nearby Berber village, where you can enjoy traditional mint tea in a local Berber house.
At approximately 4.00pm, depart Imlil and travel back towards Marrakech, arriving at your hotel at around 5.30pm.
Note: This itinerary is intended as a guideline and may be changed to suit local conditions.

Personal baggage, cooking equipment and food are carried by the mules, leaving you to carry only a rucksack with whatever you need close at hand for the day. NB: Left luggage or unnecessary luggage can be left safely in our storage in Imlil till you come back from the trek.
