Join Us For A 22 Day High Atlas Adventure Like No Other
Our stunning trekking itinerary begins in the picturesque Bou Guemmez Valley and heads south-west through the spectacular Atlas Mountains, including North Africa’s highest peak, Mount Toubkal. Along the way, we visit traditional fortified Berber villages and follow good mountain trails through remote, peaceful valleys to reach high and scenic wild-camping locations.
The trek also offers the opportunity to climb three of the Atlas Mountains’ highest peaks: Mgoun (4,068m / 13,350ft), Anghomar (3,608m / 11,837ft) and Jebel Toubkal (4,167m / 13,671ft). Combining spectacular mountain scenery, rich cultural heritage and abundant wildlife, this is widely regarded as one of the finest mountain walking experiences in Morocco.
On our return to Marrakech, there is time to explore the atmospheric old Arab quarter, renowned for its vibrant souks, traditional handicrafts and lively streets. This is the ultimate Atlas Mountains adventure holiday, combining challenging trekking with fascinating Moroccan culture.
This trek runs from May to October and can depart on any date of your choice.
We usually have several treks departing each week, which you are welcome to join.

Pick Up & Drop Off
You will be picked up from your accommodation in Marrakech city, many riads don't have access via car so the driver will park nearby and come to get you.
You will be dropped off at the nearest point to your riad/hotel. Our driver can call your riad to meet you if needed.
Route Details
Day 01
Marrakech
On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel, where you can settle in and relax before the start of your Moroccan adventure.
Day 02
Marrakech - Cascades Ouzoud - Azilal - Col Oughbar - Ait Abbes - Ait Bouguemmaz - Agouti - Azib n'Ikkis
Camp overnight. Approx. 3 hours’ walking and 5½ hours by road, travelling through the spectacular Moroccan mountain landscape.
Day 03
Azib n'Ikkis (2300 m) - Col Tarkeddit (3450 m) - Plateau Tarkeddit (2900 m) - Camp-5H30
Today’s route involves approximately 5½ hours of walking, with a significant positive ascent of around 1,100m. The trail climbs steadily through the spectacular mountain landscape, offering changing views as we gain altitude. This is a rewarding day of High Atlas trekking, combining a sustained climb with beautiful scenery and a sense of reaching the more remote and rugged areas of the mountains.
Day 04
Plateau de Tilibit n'Tarkeddit (2900 m) - Sommet du M'goun (4068 m)
Today’s trek takes approximately 8½ hours, with around 1,100m of both ascent and descent. We follow a challenging mountain route through the spectacular High Atlas landscape, climbing steadily before descending through remote valleys and rugged mountain terrain. The rewarding route offers impressive panoramic views and a true sense of adventure. We return to the same camp in the evening for a well-earned rest.
Day 05
Plateau of Tarkedit - Sources of Tassaoute - Col of Sdremt (3200 m) - Tazgaiwalt - Amezri - Imin Ikkis - camp 6H
Today’s route involves around 300m of ascent followed by a substantial 1,100m descent. The trail gradually climbs through the spectacular High Atlas landscape before descending into the valleys below, with changing mountain scenery and panoramic views along the way. The long descent provides a rewarding finish to the day as we make our way towards lower ground and the next stage of our trekking adventure.
Day 06
Imin Ikkis (2100 m) - Ichebbaken - Ait Hamza - Ait Ali n' Itto - camp
We continue our High Atlas trek from Imin Ikkis, following the trail through a series of traditional Berber villages, including Ichebbaken, Ait Hamza and Ait Ali n’Itto. The route offers beautiful mountain scenery and an authentic glimpse of life in Morocco’s remote Atlas valleys before we reach our camp for the night. Approx. 5½–6 hours’ walking.
Day 07
Ait Ali n Itto - Megdaz - col 2400 m - Tagought - Tizin Fedghat (2500 m)
We continue our High Atlas trek from Ait Ali n’Itto towards the beautiful mountain village of Megdaz, following the trail to a high mountain col at 2,400m. We then cross the rugged landscape towards Tagought before reaching Tizi n’Fedghat (2,500m), where we camp for the night. Approx. 6 hours’ walking, with 800m of ascent and 200m of descent.
Day 08
We leave Tizi n’Fedghat and continue through the spectacular High Atlas landscape towards Tamzrit and the Col Ineghmar (2,800m). From the pass, we descend towards the beautiful Lake Tamda, surrounded by rugged mountain scenery, before continuing to Azib Anfergal (2,600m), where we camp for the night. Approx. 6 hours’ walking.

Day 09
We leave Azib n’Anfergal and continue our High Atlas trek through the remote mountain landscape towards Tighza n’Ouaourikt. The trail then leads towards Anemiter, passing through dramatic valleys and traditional mountain scenery before reaching our camp at the foot of the Tizi n’Telouat Pass. Approx. 5½ hours’ walking.

Day 10
We leave Tizi n’Telouat and continue our High Atlas trek through remote mountain landscapes, passing traditional shepherds’ huts and following trails towards Titoula and Taddert. Along the way, enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding valleys and rugged peaks before reaching our camp for the night. Approx. 6 hours’ walking.

Day 11
We leave Taddert and trek across the scenic Afra Plateau, enjoying wide-ranging views across the rugged High Atlas landscape. The trail then descends towards Afra Village, offering a glimpse of traditional mountain life and remote Berber communities. We continue towards the Assif n’Zat Valley, where we set up camp for the night. Approx. 5 hours’ walking.

Day 12
Afra - Assats - Assif n Zat - gorges - Azgour - camp
We leave Afra and continue our High Atlas trek towards Assats and the Assif n’Zat Valley. Following the river, the trail takes us through dramatic gorges and rugged mountain scenery before reaching Azgour, where we set up camp for the night. This scenic section offers a wonderful combination of remote landscapes and traditional mountain scenery. Approx. 6 hours’ walking.
Day 13
Azgour - Ouarzast Villages and bergeries - plateau of Yagour
We leave Azgour and continue our High Atlas trek towards the traditional villages and shepherds’ huts of Ouarzast. The trail climbs gradually through remote mountain scenery before reaching the spectacular Yagour Plateau, renowned for its wide-open landscapes, traditional Berber culture and ancient rock carvings. Approx. 6 hours’ walking.
Day 14
Yagour - Ait Iguerane - Taddert n'Aghbalou - Setti Fadma
We leave the Yagour Plateau and descend towards Ait Iguerane, following trails through the spectacular High Atlas landscape. Continuing through Taddert n’Aghbalou, we make our way towards Setti Fatma, a picturesque mountain village set in the Ourika Valley. This scenic route combines remote mountain scenery with a glimpse of traditional Berber life. Approx. 6½ hours’ walking.
Day 15
Agadir 'Ait Boulemane - Anefli - Gorges Kissaria - Azib n'likkemt (2500 m)
We leave Agadir ‘Ait Boulemane and follow the trail towards Anefli, continuing through the spectacular Gorges Kissaria. The route takes us deeper into the rugged High Atlas landscape, with dramatic mountain scenery and remote valleys along the way. We then climb towards Azib n’Likkemt (2,500m), where we set up camp for the night. Approx. 6 hours’ walking.
Day 16
Azib n'Likkemt (2500 m) - col Tifni (2900 m) - Azib n Tifni - Taghbaloute

Day 17
Taghbaloute - Tissaldai - Amsouert - Ait Iguerane - Chez Balaid - Lac Ifni (2400 m)
We leave Azib n’Likkemt and climb steadily towards the Tifni Pass (2,900m), enjoying spectacular views across the rugged High Atlas Mountains. From the pass, we descend towards Azib n’Tifni, following remote mountain trails through dramatic scenery before continuing to Taghbaloute. Approx. 6½ hours’ walking.
Day 18
Lac Ifni - Col Ouanoums (3700 m) - base camp in the foot of Toubkal (3200 m)
We leave Lake Ifni and climb towards the spectacular Ouanoums Pass (3,700m), one of the highest points on our High Atlas trekking route. From the pass, we descend through rugged mountain terrain towards the base camp at the foot of Mount Toubkal (3,200m), where we settle in for the night surrounded by breathtaking alpine scenery.
Day 19
Camp (3200 m) - Sommet Toubkal (4167 m)
Toubkal Base Camp (3,200m) – Mount Toubkal Summit (4,167m) – Old Camp – Imlil
An early start takes us from our base camp at 3,200m on the challenging ascent to the summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167m), the highest mountain in North Africa. After reaching the summit and enjoying spectacular panoramic views across the High Atlas, we descend to our former camp before continuing down towards Imlil. A rewarding finale to our High Atlas trekking adventure.
Day 20
Imlil gite (1750 m) - Asni - return to Marrakech
After breakfast, we leave our gîte in Imlil (1,750m) and descend from the High Atlas towards Asni. From here, we continue by road to Marrakech, bringing our Atlas Mountains trekking adventure to a close. Enjoy the changing scenery as we leave the mountains behind and return to Marrakech.

What Is Appropriate Attire In Morocco?
Morocco is a conservative and religious country, which means you always need to be mindful of your clothing choices. This is especially true in the country’s more rural areas, which include the Sahara Desert and its surrounding villages. As a general rule of thumb, you should always attempt to cover body parts considered “private”. For women, this means covering the arms (or at least the shoulders) and the knees up. For men, it requires covering up the shoulders and above the knee.

High Energy Meals
Meals on the trek are cooked by the Berber muleteers. The food is fresh and healthy. Example meals:
Breakfast: Jam, bread, cookies, fruit, juice, butter, coffee, milkLunch: salad, tomatoes, carrots, lentils, beans, rice or pasta, fish (sardines, tuna), seasonal fruit

Personal baggage, cooking equipment and food are carried by the mules, leaving you to carry only a rucksack with whatever you need close at hand for the day. NB: Left luggage or unnecessary luggage can be left safely in our storage in Imlil till you come back from the trek.
