Day Trip From Marrakech to Essaouirra
If you’ve explored the Marrakech medina and haggled for bargains in the sprawling souk, heard storytellers weave their magic in the Djemaa el Fna square, and dined al fresco on Moroccan cuisine, it’s time to travel further afield to discover more of the magic of Morocco. Marrakech sits in the foothills of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains, North Africa’s chain of mountains linking Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. Here, the High Atlas range is cut by the Draa River to the south and Imlil valley, Ourika valley, Zat valley .. to the north. There are lots of excursions to do from Marrakech to the The Berber Valleys of the High Atlas Mountains which are only about a one hour drive from the city. Pick Up & Drop Off
You will be picked up from your accommodation in Marrakech city, many riads does not have access by car so the driver will park nearby and come to get you.
You will be dropped off at the nearest point to your riad/hotel, our driver can call your riad to meet you if needed.
Route Details
Day 01
Marrakech - Atlas Mountains
In an exceptional setting on the Atlantic coastline a rocky peninsula defying the waves this Old Portuguese town surprises you with its unexpected architecture: blue-shuttered house and cannons pointed out over the open sea. Know as Mogador until the 18th century, Essaouira was occupied by the Portuguese in the 16th century and still shows traces of this occupation.
THE BEACH : This beach is well-known by the organizers of sailboard contests, and presents a real challenge for surf professionals.
THE PORT: The port of Essaouira was constructed in 18th century. The port of Timbuktu, as it served to link black Africa to Europe and America. One of the most animated spots the city , where fish are sold auction after the return of the multicolored fishing boats.
THE SAKAL: Founded for purely military ends, it kept watch on the ocean and preserved the city against any attack thanks to a collection of bronze European cannons constantly aimed at the ocean.
THE FISH SOUK: It offers a variety of fresh fish straight from the port. Tourist can taste grilled fish right there, in a corner.
THE JEWELER SOUK: Unique in style, jewelry is deigned by highly skilled craftsmen right on-the-spot

Personal baggage, cooking equipment and food are carried by the mules, leaving you to carry only a rucksack with whatever you need close at hand for the day. NB: Left luggage or unnecessary luggage can be left safely in our storage in Imlil till you come back from the trek.
