Day Trek From Imlil To The Surrounding Toubkal Massif Valleys
Nestled high in the heart of the High Atlas Mountains, beneath the towering summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167m), lies the mountain village of Imlil at around 1,740m. Surrounded by dramatic peaks, deep valleys and traditional Berber villages, Imlil is the main starting point for ascents of Mount Toubkal and an ideal base for exploring the spectacular High Atlas.

Follow mountain trails across scenic passes, through peaceful valleys and into remote Berber villages, with routes suitable for different levels of walking experience.

Pick Up & Drop Off
You will be picked up from your accommodation in Marrakech city, many riads don't have access via car so the driver will park nearby and come to get you.
You will be dropped off at the nearest point to your riad/hotel. Our driver can call your riad to meet you if needed.
Route Details
Day 01
Imlil - Tizi n' Tamatert - Amghedoul - Tacheddirt - Tighourine- Imlil
Leave the trailhead and follow the piste east towards the Tizi n’Tamatert Pass, climbing gradually through the mountain landscape. The route takes you past fields of wheat and orchards of walnut, apple and cherry trees before reaching Tamatert village at 1,810m. From here, continue along a narrower mountain path through fragrant pine and juniper woodland until you reach the Tizi n’Tamatert at 2,272m.
The pass provides magnificent views over the Imlil and Imenane Valleys, with traditional Berber villages and carefully cultivated terraces scattered across the steep mountain slopes. Beyond the valleys, the impressive Adrar n’Oukaimeden (3,268m) dominates the southern horizon, while the peaks of Tizi n’Eddi (2,928m) and Jbel Angour (3,616m) add to the dramatic High Atlas panorama.
From the pass, continue along the slopes of the Tamatert Valley towards Amghedoul, where you’ll stop to enjoy a picnic surrounded by the spectacular peaks of the Toubkal Massif. After a chance to relax and take in the scenery, continue towards Douar Samra, passing first through Tacheddirt, one of the oldest Berber villages in this remote mountain region.
The route then leads through Ouaneskra and along the opposite side of the valley, passing the villages of Tamegguist and Tinghourine. Throughout the return journey, enjoy views of some of the High Atlas’s impressive peaks, including Jbel Bou Iguenouane (3,882m), Tizi n’Likemt (3,615m), Aksoual (3,842m) and Azrou n’Tamadot (3,664m), before completing the trek and returning to your accommodation.

Personal baggage, cooking equipment and food are carried by the mules, leaving you to carry only a rucksack with whatever you need close at hand for the day. NB: Left luggage or unnecessary luggage can be left safely in our storage in Imlil till you come back from the trek.
